Batten Board Shutters – How to Build
A typical Batten Board shutter is one where three vertical boards are held in place by two horizontal boards. If you require shutters for your home, build your own batten board shutters by yourself since they are the easiest types of shutters that you can build on your own. Just remember a few steps.
Take a measurement of your windows and understand how much wood you will need to make your batten board shutters. Measure its height and width with a tape measure. Ensure that your shutters are as tall as the window but just half as wide as the window.
Purchase the wood that you like. Each shutter must consist of three vertical pieces and two horizontal pieces, making for a total of six vertical pieces and four horizontal pieces for each window. For larger windows, you may need more vertical pieces.
Next, assemble the boards. Lay out your boards and the vertical pieces together on a flat surface. Put only the boards together for each shutter. Normally, there are three boards. Put these next to each other and ensure that they are even and together. Then connect them to one another with waterproof wood glue.
Next use a nail gun to attach the battens to the boards. Once this is completed apply some waterproof outdoor wood stain or just paint the shutters. Allow them to dry and attach the shutters with screws.
